Tales of Ramayanaya
Sri LankaThe Ramayanaya is one of the greatest epics of ancient literature, narrating the legendary tale of Prince Rama, his exile, and his quest to rescue his wife, Sita, from the demon king Ravana. Rooted in deep cultural and spiritual significance, this timeless story has been passed down through generations, shaping traditions, values, and beliefs across South Asia.
The epic unfolds with King Dasaratha of Ayodhya preparing to crown his beloved son, Rama, as the heir to the throne. However, a sudden twist of fate, driven by the jealousy of Queen Kaikeyi, forces Rama into a 14-year exile in the forest. Accompanied by his devoted wife, Sita, and loyal brother, Lakshmana, Rama embraces his destiny, encountering sages, demons, and divine beings along the way.
One of the most pivotal moments in the Ramayanaya is the abduction of Sita by the mighty Ravana, the ruler of Lanka. This act sets the stage for an epic battle between good and evil, where Rama, with the aid of the monkey god Hanuman and an army of vanaras (divine monkey warriors), wages war to reclaim his beloved. The story of Ramayanaya not only celebrates courage and devotion but also highlights the eternal struggle between dharma (righteousness) and adharma (unrighteousness).
